Catching Up With NC's Top Recruits

8:11 PM
Catching Up With NC's Top Recruits
The recruiting process is a rite of passage for many of today’s high school sports stars. Schools from across a state, region, or even the entire country constantly try to woo the stars of tomorrow. Carolina Gridiron wanted to catch up with some of North Carolina’s top recruits, so we sent a survey out to 12 of the top players in the state. We’ll post their responses as we receive them.

Today's top player is Romar Morris of Salisbury High School. Romar played wide receiver and running back for the Hornets this year, racking up 1780 yards and 30 touchdowns, an average of almost two a game. Romar was a leader of his team this year and helped his team to reach the 2AA state championship game where the Hornets beat Northeastern 30-0. Romar was named the Wendy's Most Valuable Player.

From 2010 Football 2AA State Championship

Romar has been billed as the fastest football player in North Carolina and he has shown that through some tremendous efforts at athletic events. At the Nike SPARQ Rating National Championship, Romar ran a blistering 4.32 40 yard dash. He has won back to back 2A titles in the 100 meters (10.54) and 200 meters (21.47) breaking the 2A state meet record in both.

After being recruited heavily by Tennesee, North Carolina, and Penn State, Romar ultimately decided that the best place for him was in Chapel Hill with the Tarheels. Known for their use of multiple running backs, UNC is a great spot for Romar to get playing time early and often.

When asked about the recruiting process, Romar had this to say. "Its been great this past year. I have really learned a lot about different schools and recruiting."

Thanks for filling out the Carolina Gridiron Top Recruits Survey, Romar, and best of luck next year as you suit up for the Tarheels.

Catching Up With NC's Top Recruits

Catching Up With NC's Top Recruits
The recruiting process is a rite of passage for many of today’s high school sports stars. Schools from across a state, region, or even the entire country constantly try to woo the stars of tomorrow. Carolina Gridiron wanted to catch up with some of North Carolina’s top recruits, so we sent a survey out to 12 of the top players in the state. We’ll post their responses as we receive them.

Today’s recruit is Shawn Underwood of Fuquay-Varina High School. Shawn was a standout defensive lineman for the Bengals and is projected to be a solid college player in the future. At 6’2” and 315 lbs. he definitely will be able to play on the defensive line at the FBS level. A three star prospect, Shawn was recruited heavily by NC State, Penn State, and North Carolina. All three have been known to send defensive lineman to the NFL and all would be a good fit for Shawn. Shawn described the recruiting process as long and hard, but ultimately decided that there was one coaching staff he would really like to play for. But to Shawn, location and education are equally as important. Keeping this in mind, Shawn committed to North Carolina on July 13th of last year. Shawn made his official visit to Chapel Hill this past weekend.

Thanks for filling out the Carolina Gridiron Top Recruits Survey, Shawn, and best of luck next year as you suit up for the Tarheels.
