Johnson C. Smith Ground Attack Propels Golden Bulls to 27-20 Victory Over Lincoln (Pa.)


LINCOLN, PA – Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, Johnson C. Smith University relied on its ground game to secure a hard-fought 27-20 win over the Lincoln (Pa.) University Lions at the LU Athletic Stadium on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

In a closely contested matchup, the Golden Bulls (3-1, 2-0 CIAA) demonstrated their offensive prowess early in the game. Kicking off the scoring, Al Garcia nailed a 42-yard field goal, capping a seven-play drive in the first quarter. Robert Adams extended JCSU's lead to 10-0 with a one-yard rushing touchdown with just under two minutes left in the opening quarter. However, Lincoln (Pa.) responded as Elijah Snell found the end zone with a five-yard run, narrowing the gap to 10-7.

The game took a thrilling turn when Isaiah Freeman connected with Eli Riddick for a 65-yard touchdown, giving Lincoln (Pa.) their first and only lead of the game. JCSU quickly answered, regaining the lead with Shydem McCullough's one-yard rushing touchdown, making it 17-14. Jacob Newman extended the Golden Bulls' advantage with a 21-yard rushing touchdown. Although the Lions added one more touchdown, the Golden Bulls secured the win with three more points, emerging victorious with a final score of 27-20.

Key offensive performances included Robert Adams completing 14 of 28 passes for 127 yards and a rushing touchdown, while Jacob Newnam rushed for 104 yards on 20 carries, contributing one touchdown. On the defensive front, Jack Smith made a significant impact, recording six tackles and three breakups in the win.
