Campbell Football Begins Pioneer League Play at Butler

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell heads into Pioneer Football League play this weekend, traveling to Butler. The Camels kick off a noon on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Butler Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Camels (2-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, 23-13 at Presbyterian, where three CU turnovers led to 14 PC points.

Junior running back De’Shawn Jones, who rushed for 89 yards at PC, ranks third in the country (NCAA Division I FCS) with 375 yards. Kameron Bryant owns 469 passing yards and six touchdowns, rushing for 114 and a score.

12 Camels has caught passes through three games this season, led by Andre Davis’ 94 yards on six grabs. Aaron Blockmon and Ricky Brown have caught two touchdown passes each.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Jack Ryan tops the team with 19 tackles, with three for loss, while nine Camels have factored in sacks, including 1.5 from Ugonna Awuruonye, who adds 16 tackles.

Butler is 2-1 heading into its PFL schedule after a 41-10 win at NAIA member Taylor last weekend. The Bulldogs piled up 488 yards of total offense being quarterback Matt Shiltz, who posted 293 yards passing and 78 rushing, tossing two TDs and running for two more.

Shiltz averages 198.7 yards passing and 79.0 yard rushing per game, while Danny Cotter owns a team-high 184 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Sean Horan leads the Butler defense with 23 tackles, including three for loss with a pass breakup.

Campbell is 3-4 all-time against Butler, claiming a 28-9 win over the Bulldogs in Buies Creek last season.

Campbell returns to Barker-Lane Stadium in an Oct. 3 matchup against Drake. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., highlighting CU’s Family Weekend.
