GREENSBORO - Cameron Turner threw a 78-yard touchdown pass to Shamar Privette with 1:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, lifting Greensboro College to a 13-12 victory over Methodist University at Pride Field on Saturday.

The play came on second-and-8 from the Greensboro 22-yard line and capped a three-play, 80-yard drive that took just 46 seconds. Turner had rushed for 12 yards on first down before connecting with Privette for the game-winning score. The Pride failed on a two-point conversion attempt but held on for the win.

Methodist had taken a 12-7 lead earlier in the fourth quarter on Ethan Emery's 24-yard field goal with 11:13 left in the game. That kick completed a 14-play, 89-yard drive that consumed 7:46 of clock time. The Monarchs had driven inside the Greensboro 10-yard line but were pushed back by a false start penalty before the field goal attempt.

Greensboro struck first, taking a 7-0 lead on Turner's 10-yard touchdown run with six seconds left in the first quarter. The Pride marched 69 yards in 10 plays on that opening drive, benefiting from a Methodist offsides penalty on fourth-and-1.

Methodist responded early in the second quarter when Kolbe Little scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 10:16 remaining in the half. The Monarchs had moved 56 yards in nine plays, but Emery's extra point attempt sailed wide, leaving Methodist trailing 7-6. The Monarchs added a 22-yard field goal from Emery with 1:08 left before halftime to take a 9-7 lead into the break.

Turner finished 10-of-18 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 50 yards and another score on 13 carries. Privette caught three passes for 104 yards and the decisive touchdown. KJ Brown added four receptions for 33 yards for Greensboro.

For Methodist, quarterback play was split between Little and Asa Windham. Little completed 7-of-15 passes for 67 yards with one interception, while Windham was 8-of-12 for 81 yards. Kyan McCollum led the Monarchs' ground game with 62 yards on 16 carries.

Jay Law paced Greensboro's defense with 13 total tackles (10 solo), while Frank Walker recorded 10 tackles and two tackles for loss. Kalil Marcus intercepted Little's pass in the first quarter and also broke up a pass.

Anthony Smith led Methodist with seven solo tackles. The Monarchs held a 36:17 to 23:43 advantage in time of possession but converted just 5-of-14 third-down attempts. Greensboro went 3-for-11 on third down.

Methodist falls to 1-8 on the season, while Greensboro improves to 2-7 with the come-from-behind victory.

FAYETTEVILLE – Braylon Knapp threw four touchdown passes and N.C. Wesleyan scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to pull away from Methodist 48-17 at Monarch Stadium on Saturday.

The Bishops improved to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while the Monarchs fell to 1-7 and 0-5.

Knapp completed 9 of 16 passes for 183 yards without an interception, connecting with four different receivers for scores. Michael Pannell caught two of those touchdowns and returned a punt 61 yards for another score, finishing with five receptions for 84 yards.

N.C. Wesleyan needed more than six minutes to find the end zone on its opening possession, capping a 13-play, 77-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Knapp to Tyson Resper. The Bishops added two more scores in a span of 40 seconds late in the first half. Knapp found Sean Cartwright for a 66-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0, then Pannell took a punt back for a score on the ensuing possession to extend the lead to 21-0.

Methodist responded immediately with a 40-yard touchdown run by CJ Ferguson, cutting the deficit to 21-7 with 7:26 remaining in the second quarter. The Monarchs added a 22-yard field goal from Ethan Emery before halftime to pull within 21-10.

The third quarter featured another explosive offensive stretch from N.C. Wesleyan. After Ferguson scored on a 14-yard run to make it 27-17, the Bishops answered with a five-play, 72-yard drive that took less than three minutes. Knapp connected with Pannell for a 55-yard touchdown pass to push the advantage back to 34-17.

Nahji Seagraves carried the ball 21 times for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Bishops. His 1-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter made it 41-17. Seagraves had rushes of 25 and 13 yards during N.C. Wesleyan's ground attack.

The game's final touchdown came on defense. Savon McKeithan intercepted a Kolbe Little pass at the N.C. Wesleyan 20-yard line and returned it 80 yards for a score with 5:54 remaining to set the final margin.

Ferguson led Methodist's rushing attack with 18 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Little completed 14 of 27 passes for 147 yards with one interception. Bryson Ausby caught three passes for 30 yards and returned six kickoffs for 163 yards.

N.C. Wesleyan controlled possession for just 23:46 compared to Methodist's 36:14, but the Bishops made the most of their opportunities. They converted 5 of 9 third-down attempts and scored on all three of their red zone possessions. Methodist went 5 of 15 on third down and managed just two scores in four red zone trips.

The Bishops averaged 6.9 yards per play compared to 5.0 for the Monarchs. Knapp averaged 20.3 yards per completion, while Little averaged 10.5. N.C. Wesleyan's special teams provided a significant advantage, with Braxtyn Green averaging 45.2 yards per punt with two kicks inside the 20-yard line. Methodist's Kenneth Schoene averaged 30.0 yards per punt.

Mathias Winston led the Bishops' defense with 10 tackles, while Eric Cooper added seven tackles and forced a fumble. Lavar Williams recorded N.C. Wesleyan's only sack, a 5-yard loss in the first quarter.

BREVARD – Brevard imposed its will on both sides of the ball Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Greensboro 34-7 at Pride Field. The Tornados improved to 3-3 with a complete performance that featured a dominant ground attack, timely passing and a relentless defensive effort that held the Pride to just one first-quarter score.

Rayshawn Williams led the offensive charge, rushing 14 times for 125 yards and scoring the game's final touchdown. His physical running style wore down Greensboro's defense, with gains of 36, 15, 12 and 10 yards highlighting his afternoon. Williams also contributed in the passing game, catching one pass for two yards.

The tone was set early, though not in Brevard's favor. Greensboro marched 61 yards on 11 plays on its opening possession, capping the drive when Cameron Turner found Jayden Morrison for a touchdown pass. Reagan Sawyer's extra point gave the Pride a 7-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.

Brevard responded immediately. After a kickoff return that included a personal foul penalty on Greensboro, the Tornados found themselves at the GSO 23-yard line. One play later, Jeremyah Lane burst 23 yards up the left side for a touchdown. Hayden Vandegriff's extra point attempt was blocked, leaving Brevard trailing 7-6 with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter.

The rest of the game belonged to the Tornados. Brevard scored 14 points in the second quarter, seven in the third and seven in the fourth, while the defense shut out Greensboro over the final three quarters.

Ethan Beamish managed the game efficiently from the quarterback position, completing 8 of 15 passes for 136 yards and one touchdown. His 54-yard completion to Alex Bolton in the second quarter set up one scoring drive, while his 31-yard connection with Adam Douglas in the third quarter sparked another. Beamish's most important throw came late in the first half when he hit Christian Roberson for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds remaining before halftime, extending Brevard's lead to 18-7.

Douglas finished with four receptions for 50 yards, serving as Beamish's most reliable target. Roberson caught two passes, including the touchdown, and added a 27-yard kickoff return.

Zion Fauntleroy-McDaniel provided explosive plays in the running game, carrying five times for 72 yards and one touchdown. His 26-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Brevard a 12-7 lead. He also broke off runs of 27 and 16 yards, consistently finding gaps in Greensboro's defensive front.

Lane added 23 yards on two carries beyond his touchdown run, while Beamish contributed 11 yards on the ground despite being sacked twice.

The Brevard defense overwhelmed Turner and the Greensboro offense throughout the final three quarters. Baylee Ramey recorded eight solo tackles and five assists for 13 total stops, adding one tackle for loss. His presence in the middle of the field disrupted Greensboro's rhythm repeatedly.

Robert Dorsey terrorized the Pride backfield with six solo tackles, two assists and three tackles for loss totaling 18 yards. He recorded multiple sacks and consistently penetrated into the backfield on rushing attempts.

Turner finished 8 of 19 passing for 83 yards before being replaced by Chase Altis in the fourth quarter. Turner rushed 24 times for 72 net yards but was sacked eight times, losing 44 yards in the process. The constant pressure from Brevard's defensive line and linebackers prevented Greensboro from establishing any offensive continuity.

Altis completed 5 of 10 passes for 70 yards in relief, but by the time he entered the game, the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Camron Torrence-Kelly led Greensboro's rushing attack with 88 net yards on 13 carries. Kyjuan Westmoreland added 43 yards on nine attempts. Despite these individual efforts, the Pride managed just 207 net rushing yards as a team and could not sustain drives once Brevard's defense made adjustments after the opening quarter.

Greensboro's receiving corps was led by KJ Brown and Jae'Vian Carr, who each caught three passes for 43 yards. Shamar Privette also caught three passes for 40 yards, but none of Greensboro's receivers found the end zone after the opening drive.

Brevard controlled possession for just 21:25 compared to Greensboro's 38:35, but the Tornados made their opportunities count. They converted 3 of 7 third-down attempts and scored touchdowns on four of their seven trips inside Greensboro territory.

The third quarter proved decisive for establishing the final margin. After Sawyer returned a kickoff for a touchdown to open the second half, giving Brevard a 26-7 lead, Vandegriff's extra point made it 27-7. Greensboro never threatened to make the game competitive again.

In the fourth quarter, Williams capped a three-play, 54-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run. His 36-yard burst up the middle on that drive showcased his ability to break tackles and find space in the open field. Vandegriff's extra point set the final score at 34-7.

Brevard's special teams contributed to the victory beyond the kickoff return touchdown. Samuel Vargas punted twice for 63 yards, pinning Greensboro deep once with a punt inside the 20-yard line. Lane returned one punt for 35 yards, providing excellent field position for the offense.

Vandegriff missed one field goal attempt from 32 yards in the third quarter, but his kickoffs were effective, totaling 360 yards on six attempts with an average of 60 yards per kick.

Greensboro's Guy Galardi III punted three times for 119 yards, averaging 39.7 yards per attempt, but his unit could not overcome the offensive struggles.

The penalties proved costly for both teams but particularly for Greensboro, which committed multiple personal fouls and holding penalties at critical moments. Brevard also committed nine penalties for 111 yards, including holding calls that negated positive plays.

For Brevard, the victory represents a complete team effort and moves the Tornados to .500 on the season. The defense's ability to shut down an opponent after giving up an early touchdown demonstrates growth and resilience. The offense showed balance between the run and pass while protecting Beamish well enough to allow the passing game to complement the ground attack.

Greensboro falls to 1-5, searching for answers on both sides of the ball. The Pride's inability to protect Turner in the pocket and the offense's failure to score after the first quarter will need to be addressed moving forward.

BREVARD – Brevard scored four touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 42-9 victory over Greensboro in Saturday's USA South conference matchup.

Junior quarterback Ethan Beamish led Brevard (3-1, 3-0 USA South) with 310 passing yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Zackary Orr twice for scores. The game held special significance for Orr, who broke Brevard's all-time career receiving record, surpassing former record-holder Bubba Craven. Orr finished with 122 receiving yards, bringing his career total to 1,591 yards.

The Tornados struck quickly when Beamish found Cooper Hogan for a 64-yard touchdown on their opening drive. After forcing a three-and-out, Brevard extended their lead on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Orr. Running back Jadien Deaton added to the first-quarter surge with a 70-yard touchdown run, followed by Orr's second touchdown reception of 56 yards.

Greensboro (1-4, 1-2 USAS) got on the scoreboard in the second quarter with Thomas Chapman's 21-yard field goal. Brevard responded when Chancellor Lee-Parker scored on a 16-yard run, pushing the lead to 35-3 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Brevard added its final touchdown on Beamish's 31-yard pass to Reggie Taylor II. Greensboro scored their lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter on Quinton Solomon's 23-yard run.

Brevard's defense limited Greensboro to 287 total yards and forced two turnovers. Adam Chaney and Baylee Ramey led the Tornados' defense with eight tackles each, while Robert Dorsey recorded one and a half sacks and forced a fumble.

For Greensboro, Jayden Morrison completed 8 of 18 passes for 55 yards, while Jaquavius Weldon led the rushing attack with 28 yards on eight carries. Defensively, Ziere Ray recorded nine tackles and one and a half sacks in the losing effort.

The win keeps Brevard undefeated in conference play, while Greensboro drops to 1-2 in USA South competition.

ROCKY MOUNT – The NC Wesleyan Battling Bishops held off a late surge from the Methodist Monarchs to secure a 19-17 victory in a closely contested matchup that showcased contrasting offensive styles.

NC Wesleyan’s big-play offense proved decisive, with quarterback Chaz Hirschman connecting on touchdown passes of 65 and 27 yards to Anthony Byrd and Christian Drumgoole, respectively. Despite attempting fewer passes, Hirschman averaged 12.5 yards per attempt compared to Methodist quarterback Brennan Brucato’s 6.2, finishing with 225 passing yards on just 10 completions.

The Bishops struck quickly in their opening drive, as Hirschman found Byrd for a 65-yard touchdown pass just 62 seconds into the game. Methodist responded in the second quarter with a 23-yard field goal by Samuel Andrae, cutting the deficit to 6-3 at halftime.

The third quarter saw an explosion of scoring from both teams. Byrd, who finished with 150 rushing yards on 22 carries, extended NC Wesleyan’s lead with an 8-yard touchdown run. Methodist answered when Sajari Love scored on a 12-yard run, bringing the score to 13-10. Drumgoole’s 27-yard touchdown reception pushed the Bishops’ advantage back to nine points.

In the fourth quarter, Methodist mounted a comeback attempt. Brucato connected with Love for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 1:32 remaining, but the Bishops managed to run out the clock on their final possession.

Despite the loss, Methodist dominated time of possession, holding the ball for nearly 34 minutes compared to NC Wesleyan’s 26. The Monarchs ran 76 plays to the Bishops’ 59 but averaged less yardage per play (4.8 to 6.9).

Methodist’s balanced offensive approach resulted in 361 total yards, with Brucato completing 18 of 33 passes for 203 yards and the late touchdown. Love led the Monarchs’ ground game with 71 yards on 15 carries and added 83 receiving yards on six catches.

Drumgoole was Hirschman’s primary target, catching five passes for 92 yards. The Bishops accumulated 407 total yards, with 182 coming on the ground and 225 through the air.

Defensively, Methodist’s Omar Goodwin led all tacklers with 10, including one tackle for loss. The Monarchs recorded two sacks on Hirschman, while the Bishops brought down Brucato once.

Penalties played a significant role in the contest, with NC Wesleyan flagged 13 times for 139 yards, nearly double Methodist’s 8 penalties for 65 yards.

Both teams struggled in key situations. Methodist converted 8 of 18 third downs but failed on their lone fourth-down attempt. NC Wesleyan managed just 3 conversions on 11 third-down attempts.

In the kicking game, Methodist’s Kenneth Schoene averaged 37.6 yards on five punts, while NC Wesleyan’s Braxtyn Green averaged 28.8 yards on four attempts. Green missed an extra point attempt that could have proved costly in the close finish.

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Brevard College football team (2-4, 2-1 USA South) fell by a final of 38-14 to No. 23/25 Huntingdon College (5-1, 3-0 USAS) on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.

Huntingdon, who was ranked in the top 25 of all NCAA DIII football teams in both the D3foootball.com and the AFCA coaches poll, put up 31 unanswered points that included 24 points in the first half en route to the 24-point victory.

Senior wide receiver Dalton Cole totaled 162 yards of total offense, rushing for 48 yards on seven carries while logging 114 passing yards after taking over at quarterback late in the first half for the Tornados. Cole, a former USA South Offensive Rookie of the Year at the quarterback position, went 9-for-22 with three interceptions and a rushing TD under center.

Mitchell Yoder dashed for 56 yards on 10 carries, while Freddie Aiken III punched the ball in for his first touchdown of the 2022 season. Jaden O'Leary led all Tornados with four catches and 39 yards receiving.

Stamati Damalos made a pair of extra points, while Cooper Hogan averaged 27.3 yards-per-return and a long of 42 on kickoff returns. Joe Powell handled the punting duties for the second-consecutive week, averaging 37.3 yards per attempt.

Senior linebacker Toby Naylor led all Tornados with nine tackles, including a team-best three tackles-for-loss. KJ Dagout matched his season-high with seven tackles, while Tyler Harrison added six tackles. Trey Williams logged a pair of TFL's while James Woods, Grequenceo Coger Jr., Reece Rubio, and Eli Everhart also totaled tackles-for-loss.

Both teams traded punts on their first possessions, but after a three-and-out from the Tornado offense, Huntingdon struck first with a 48-yard drive on eight plays that ended with a Kahari McReynolds touchdown run that gave the hosts the early advantage, 7-0.

BC was able to get a first down on its next possession, but was forced to punt the ball away. Huntingdon put together another lengthy drive – this one 11 plays and 69 yards – that ended with a 40-yard field goal from Will Edwards.

The Hawks scored on their third consecutive possession after another Brevard three-and-out, as a nine-play, 75-yard drive ended with Landon Cotney finding Tyler England for a 10-yard touchdown that extended the Huntingdon lead to a 17-0 margin.

The Tornados put together their most productive drive of the first half, getting the ball inside the red zone with an eight-play, 48-yard drive, but Damalos' 35-yard field goal attempt was wide right. Huntingdon was able to capitalize on the missed opportunity, marching down the field 80 yards in just five plays to extend the lead, 24-0, as the hosts took this 24-point cushion into the halftime locker rooms.

Huntingdon continued its positive momentum on the first drive of the second half, going 58 yards in just seven plays as McReynolds rushed for his second TD of the day to extend the lead, 31-0. Both teams traded punts before the Hawks picked Cole off for the second time, but BC's defense forced a three-and-out on the next possession. Both sides again traded punts as the contest shifted to the fourth quarter with the hosts in command, 31-0.

Cole orchestrated BC's best drive of the afternoon – a nine-play, 54-yard possession that ended with Cole punching the ball in from a yard out as the Tornados cut the deficit back down to 24 points, 31-7.

After the Tornado defense forced another three-and-out, BC put together its longest drive of the day, running 10 plays for 77 yards and finishing with Aiken III's first touchdown of the season, as the lead shrunk to 17 points for Huntingdon, 31-14.

The Hawks were able to put the game on ice with a seven-play, 48-yard drive that ended with another Cotney touchdown pass. BC's final drive of the game ended with an interception as the Tornados fell for the first time in conference play.

Huntingdon outgained Brevard 434-250, including a 292-129 advantage in the passing game. Huntingdon controlled the ball for over 35 minutes of the game and converted 25 first downs while forcing three turnovers defensively.

Brevard will look to bounce back next weekend as the Tornados return to Ives-Lemel Family Field to take on LaGrange College on Saturday, October 22 at 3 p.m.
