NCHSAA 2A State Championship Preview: Clinton vs. Reidsville


This Saturday, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 2A State Championship will feature an electrifying match between Clinton High School and Reidsville High School at Carter-Finley Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 3 p.m.

Clinton and Reidsville, separated by just 158 miles, are the closest schools facing each other this week. Carter-Finley Stadium, the venue for the championship, is conveniently located 87 miles from Reidsville and 75 miles from Clinton.

Road to the Championship

Reidsville, the West No. 1 seed, hosted No. 7 Shelby in the Regional Final and emerged victorious with a 49-14 win, thanks to five touchdown passes from quarterback Al Lee. The Rams have an impressive record in Regional Finals, with 11 wins in 16 appearances since 1972. This year marks their seventh state championship game in the last eight years.

On the other hand, East No. 1 seed Clinton hosted No. 2 seed Northeastern in their Regional Final and secured a 36-22 win, led by Amaris Williams’ four rushing touchdowns. The Dark Horses have also had a strong showing in Regional Finals, with 11 wins in 17 appearances since 1972.

Clinton has had an undefeated season with a 15-0 overall record, including a perfect 5-0 in conference play. They have scored a total of 770 points while allowing only 203. Reidsville has also had a strong season with a 14-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. They have scored a total of 621 points while allowing 200.
