Charlotte Eliminated From Bowl Contention on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE – In a game that featured over a thousand total offensive yards, it was the FIU Panthers who ultimately came out on top at Charlotte's Richardson Stadium in a 42-35 Conference USA Eastern Division showdown.

For the 49ers, it was a career day for running back Benny LeMay who finished with thirty carries for 159 yards and a program record-tying four touchdowns. Senior Hasaan Klugh, who got the start at quarterback on Senior Day and made the most of his last opportunity to play in front of the home crowd, passed for 253 yards and a score while rushing for forty-eight yards as well.

Freshman wide receiver Victor Tucker caught four passes for 115 yards including a diving catch at the one-yard line that set up a 49ers score. Senior Juwan Foggie led the Charlotte defense, who did not allow a 100-yard rusher for the tenth time this season, with nine tackles.

FIU's James Morgan found success through the air, throwing for 268 yards and two scores. Running back Napoleon Maxwell score two touchdowns as well, including one on a 52-yard run.

With the loss, Charlotte (4-7, 3-4) was eliminated from bowl contention for the 2018 season and will look instead to next week's game at Florida Atlantic for a chance to go into the offseason with some momentum.
