NC State and Louisville Accept Bids to 2011 Belk Bowl

Will face off in Charlotte on Tuesday, December 27th

Charlotte, N.C. – The NC State Wolfpack, representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, will face the Louisville Cardinals, Co-Champions of the Big East Conference, in the 2011 Belk Bowl, it was announced today by game officials. Louisville will be making their first appearance in the game, while NC State returns for the second time, and first since 2005.

The 10th annual Belk Bowl will take place on Tuesday, December 27, with an 8 p.m. kickoff. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. The first college bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Bowl has averaged almost 60,000 fans each year with three sellouts. In addition, the game has reached over 25 million television households.

“We are very pleased to announce the University of Louisville and North Carolina State University will be playing in the 2011 Belk Bowl,” said Will Webb, Executive Director. “Louisville has played very well this season. Every game has been very competitive, with no loss by more than nine points. And NC State has shown great resiliency, winning three of their last four games to become bowl eligible, including a win over the ACC Champions Clemson.”

“We feel that the Cardinals and Wolfpack are very strong teams that should be a tremendous matchup in Charlotte. We look forward to hosting both Louisville and NC State, and all of their fans for the 2011 Belk Bowl and all the surrounding events.”

NC State finished the season with a 7-5 overall record (4-4 in the ACC, fourth in the Atlantic Division). Against Maryland In their last regular season game, NC State overcame a 27-point deficit in the second half with 42 unanswered points to secure the win and a bowl berth.

Louisville finished the regular season with a 7-5 record (5-2 in the Big East, tied for first place). They won five of their last six games, including victories over West Virginia and Rutgers.
